Davao Oriental is a livestock and poultry production area attributed to its land areas, good climatic conditions, available raw materials for animal feeds, availability of labor, and improved peace and order conditions. Major livestock commodities are cattle, carabao, goats, hogs, and poultry (native and layer).

The province is known for its large population of native pigs and organically grown pigs for lechon, hence, can be a potential source of genetic materials for native pigs. The wide coconut area makes it ideal for growing native pigs. Commercial production of native pigs is another investment area that is observed as a fast-growing market.

The goat population is rapidly increasing, however, the huge unserved market for goat meat is also rising. This gap creates another potential area for investment backed up by the above-mentioned favorable factors. Native chicken meat is preferred by the health-conscious market which is a captured market. Organically produced egg and poultry meat from native chicken has a very high demand locally and in the neighboring provinces.

The sustained increase in the production of materials for animal feeds such as corn, rice bran, other farm products, and farm by products in the province will ensure the sustainability of investments in the industry.
