(An Act Creating the Provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur
and Davao Oriental)
The Province of Davao is divided into three provinces known as Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental with each province comprising its own cities and municipalities. The Province of Davao Oriental is comprised of ten-10 Municapalities which includes Banaybanay, Lupon, San Isidro, Governor Generoso, Tarragona, Manay, Caraga, Banganga, Cateel and boston and one-1 city the City of Mati.

Banaybanay
Is Davao Oriental’s Gateway on its western border. It bounds the province’s territory from its neighboring province of Davao de Oro. Created as a municipality in 1969, Banaybanay is politically subdivided into 14 barangays. The land, characterized by the bounty of burly crowns, locally called ‘banay’ has inspired early settlers to name the land after it. This highly agricultural area is branded as the ‘Rice Granary’ of the province it is a major riced producing municipality. It is also a producer of certified rice seedlings. Other crops produced include coconut and banana.

Lupon
Was originally just a barrio of Pantukan in the year 1919. Though an Executive Order, it was formally made into a municipal district in 1921 and became a regular municipality in 1948. It is the second most populous town, covering 12.4 percent of the province. Lupon’s local economy depends primarily on fishing and aquaculture. Other economic activities include production of rice, corn, coconut meat and timber, among others. It has also a stable educated labor force because of its well-established technical education which makes Lupon an excellent research and development base. The Lupon Port and radial road links make Lupon the main distribution center in the Gulf Town.

San Isidro
Is the smallest town in the province in terms of land area. It lies along the stretch of the Davao Gulf. Aside from being a highly agricultural zone and poised as one of the cacao development areas of the province, it offers one of nature’s greatest gifts to the world – the Mt. Hamiguitan Mountain Range, which also crosses the political territories of Governor Generoso and the City of Mati. While endowed with a 1,00-hectare untoched pygmy forest teeming with life of diversity flora and fauna, San Isidro is also home ato marine reserves that is rich in marine biodiversity.

Governor Generoso
Is one of the towns located along the gulf endowed with rich seascapes and teeming fishery resources. With vast municipal waters, which is the second largest in the whole province, this marine resource-rich town is often dubbed as the province’s Fishing Capital, with the nearby Davao Gulf as its major fishing ground. In addition, Governor Generoso also prides itself with its rich history which dates back to the Spanish Occupation, when the European colonizers settled in the area concentrating in the Cape of San Agustin. Seated at the southernmost tip of Mindanao, it became an important navigational landmark during those early times. The municipality also boasts of rich forest and mineral resources as well as beautiful natural spots.

City of Mati
Is the provincial capital and government center. It is the second largest territory in terms of land area. Being the most densely populated. bearing about 25.1 percent of the total population of the entire province, the city is considered the hub of the city is considered the hub of economic growth and serves as the province’s commercial and trading center and agro-industrial center. While its lowlands embrace the Pujada Bay and bounded by the vast Pacific Ocean in the east, this component city has the longest coastline and the largest marine resources in the province. Along its coasts are beautiful beaches that include the famous Dahican Beach endowed with its 17-kilometer pristine white sand shoreline.

Tarragona
Is Davao Oriental’s portal to the east coast municipalities. Named after a place in Spain by Spanish missionaries, Tarragona is also home to the rich Mandayan culture. Manay
Is one of the six towns in the East Coast of the province. Mainly an agricultural town, it is the largest abca-producing municipality in the province. It also takes pride in its powdery white-sand beaches facing the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean. This small, quiet town of Manay that is known for its vast eco-tourism potentials also features rich historical roots that date back to the Spanish occupation.

Caraga
Is the third largest town in the province in terms of land area. It is location to the sun rises first at the easternmost vantage point of the country, which paved the way for Davao Oriental to be bannered as the ‘Sunrise Capital of the Philippines’. Also considered as one of the oldest settlements in the province, Caraga has preserved the remnants of its riich cultural roots including the century old Caraga Church.

Baganga
Is the largest municipality in the province in terms of land area. It is considered as the growth center in District 1 with its flourishing agriculture and fishiries sectors, coupled with the expansion of facilities and services, processing and marketing facilities, among others.
A town of rich culture, history, and natural wonders the Municipality of Baganga is where one of the original settlements in the province. Covering the province’s largest protection and productions areas, Baganga’s seascapes and marine wealth offers vast potential for eco-tourism and fisheries, while agricultural potentials abound in the uplands.

Cateel
Is considered an emerging urban center in the province for having the highest surge in rural population. It is poised as the next ‘Rice Granary’ in the province and in the region after having been the recipient of the largest agriculture project of the Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP)- the Cateel Irrigation Project that hopes to boost rice sufficiency in the province. Aside from the large agricultural lands, it also hosts breath breath-taking wonders such as the majestic Aliwagwag Falls, known for its beauty and unique ladder like structure characterized with cascading waters. In 2011 the Aliwagwag Falls and its environs were declared as a Protected Area under the Presidential Proclamation 139.

Boston
Is the farthest from the capital City of Mati and the province’s boundary to the neighboring province of Surigao del Sur. Its highly fertile terrains make an ideal location for agricultural production.
